Pintail

As a Youtube doom scroller, sometimes you will land on something very randomly.
I guess there is a pathway made by the “Algorithm” but that wasn’t the point.

Born in 1996 and grow up on early 2000s, street skating in general is a “Cool” and “Slick” culture that I think I am very familiar with but really far from it at the same time.

Moving from Hong Kong to the UK, I finally have space to play with. Opportunity comes when the Youtube recommended the channel “Concrete Waves”, sparks my own interest from all the precious knowledge and record that the channel stores.

Then I just learn a lot, and find a local good deal on a pintail. That will be my first board to skate, cruise and figure what I actually want riding on the streets.

And this is the Pintail I got. Mindless Lakota.

The friction within me

A really long wheelbase pair with a rather wide RKPs introduced a stable, easy to ride experience. The deck is wide enough, and the concave is a good touch to feel some spiciness. While I enjoy the time I ride on my Pintail longboard, there is one thing really annoyed me about the experience. Turning.

If I want to turn, I need to draw a really big arch with the 31” wheelbase. This made me often walk off the board and pick it up for tight turn. The smooth ride and cruise experience is nice when there is a long straight road and I’m not really enjoying the time when I “have to” walk off the board. Even pushing itself annoyed me for a bit. Also I live in UK, the pavement is really rough, I lose speed too easily and I have to push. I would rather have my feet on the board quite a long time, cruising and not walking off twice.

But at the same time, I really wanted the board work for me. The pintail shape and “Surfing” feel vibe with me, and I really have a great time on it. I knew more about what I wanted through out the time I bring it out and skate.

So my goal would be:

  • Turn more
  • Let me ride more, less pushing, less off time

And I landed on Surfskate.
